PHOENIX: SAHUARO RANCH PARK

THE NEXT POSTS WILL BE FROM PHOENIX, ARIZONA, WHERE KAROL AND I ARE GUESTS OF PAUL AND JEAN (SISTER) PENSHORN AND THEIR SON, JASON.

Only a 20 minute drive from Paul and Jean's Glendale, Arizona, home, you'll find this historic ranch, homesteaded in the 1880's. William Bartlett controlled over 2,000 acres of farmland and was one of the largest ranchers in the region. Over the years, the ranch has had many uses from cattle ranch to fruit (dates, figs, nuts, and citrus) growing, to dairy farm, and finally in the 1980's, a national historic site.

The 80 remain acres contain all of the original and/or restored buildings along with some fields and fruit acres. Pea fowl and guinea hens roam the grounds. The botanical garden area exhibits many exotic and area desert plants. The buildings are now on the records of the National Register of Historic Places. It's worth a visit should you ever the Phoenix area.
