THE GILLS

We don't get to see Karol's brother very often; in fact, I think that it's been about five years. So I'm glad that we could make the trip out to visit them in a home we've never before seen. Roy and Pat and daughter, Brandy, live on the outskirts of Newcastle, Wyoming. Newcastle is about 25 miles west of the South Dakota border, directly west of the famous Custer State Park.

The smell of money in Newcastle comes from the oil refinery right in the center of town. This refinery takes locally drilled oil (to the south and west of Newcastle) and makes jet fuel used at Ellsworth Air Force Base (Rapids City, South Dakota) and in Air Force One

Roy brought this neat wagon from his former home in Ranchester, WY. The other implement is a disc.

Roy and Pat have spent the last five years working on building their home on a three acre parcel on the outskirts of Newcastle.

Karol, Pat, and Roy and I spent part of the afternoon at the Custer State Park art fair. The unique art was unlike any found at midwestern art shows. Elk horn, leather, turquoise jewelry, western paintings, and metal sculpture were common at this art fair.

  2. I'm surprised you didn't offer to buy that wagon off of Roy to put in your yard. Maybe you'll be bringing it home with you. Looks dry out there.
